HKS S2000 supercharger

One exciting TAS 2012 debut was HKS’s new bolt-on supercharger kit for S2K; this month’s Option Magazine had a feature on it.  It’s nice to see development pushing forward for the S2K even after all these years!

Varis Demo Car

Varis Evo X wide body kit

It’s that special time of year again… We’re in Japan for Tokyo Auto Salon, and we’ve got all our behind-the-scene photos up on our Facebook!  We’ve already filled up an album with coverage of the set-up and will be adding many more as the actual event gets under way.

Pictured above is the Auto Produce Boss Evo X, a wicked car at the Varis booth which features the new Varis widebody kit.  When we say that supporting innovators matters, this is the result of that support. The Evo X community in the US supported Bulletproof and Varis with the Evo X… they didn’t knock it off and people actually bought the authentic parts. In return, Varis saw that support and built this Evo X wide body kit which officially debuts today with day 1 of Auto Salon. This is a true success story of what happens when people represent the real. Our friends in Japan listen and make new parts. Thank you Evo X community!

Tokyo Auto Salon 2011 – Impressions

Posted by

(click the picture above to go to our gallery of TAS on our facebook fan page)

After just adding another 22 pictures to our facebook fan page I thought I’d recap my thoughts on TAS 2011.

Overall the quality of cars I felt was better than 2010 and there was plenty to enjoy for everyone! However this year it is increasingly difficult to choose our favorite car of the show. In past years certian complete cars stood out and were no brainers for best cars of the show. Cars like the Top Secret Nardo Supra for example were obvious choices for being the best at TAS. This year, lots of cars tried very hard but for me there was no perfect car like there has been in the past.

With that being said, there was plenty to marvel over.

Some things that instantly come to mind…

Seeing the rediculous 17″ or so front brakes from Endless for the GT-R. I can’t imagine how much those will cost.

Enjoying my first “show car” in many years – The Panamera Z (more on that later)

Multiple takes on widebody R35 GT-Rs

Seeing the perfection that is the Top Secret R35 front bumper in person.

Advan’s Ericsson dry carbon kitted M3 sporting flawless fitment red Advans. (this car has been a staple at the show now, but the new wheels/look is crazy)

The second year of the retro Stagea with the Hakosuka front and rear end conversion (love this wagon) and also the 2000GT styled Miata. I hope JDM retro conversions of modern cars takes off as a trend!

Veilside having a booth again – Their Supra was interesting. It was nice to see them making a crazy Auto Salon car again. The Supra was executed very well but I felt that it has an identity problem by adapting the styling of the Veilside Bentley and then taking Audi’s front and rear lights. There was nothing very Supra like about it anymore and for me, that made it less interesting. To me it was more like a Supra powered Bentley GT with Audi lights. Cool yes, but not innovative in the same way like the old Veilside cars that used to dominate TAS. Although if anyone were to attempt a Supra powered Bentley with Audi R8 lights, this was about the very best that it could be done!

Lots and lots of CR-Zs, many of them being Turbo.

The first time I’ve seen someone swap a Prius motor INTO something (a Sunny pickup truck). (WHY? I guess just because…)

TommyKaira’s Prius RR – The first really solid case of making a Prius actually cool. Their Prius looks badass!

There was so much there at this show. Have a browse through our photos, we tried to select only the best from our 1000 or so photos so we could give you a feel for the event.

Tokyo Auto Salon

We put quite a few pictures from Tokyo Auto Salon up on our facebook fan page Thursday night. As usual, we snapped up pictures during setup day to bring everyone the first look. Unfortunately I’ve been very sick and I’m a bit behind on this blog post after being bed ridden for the past 35 hours. For those of you who follow our facebook page, surely you’ve already seen the shots. For everyone else, here’s the link:
