More Midnight Purple Z-Tune

Posted by

Two weeks ago I announced that we’re offering a Midnight Purple R34 GT-R Nismo Z-Tune for sale. Just as I was shocked to be able to locate the car and offer it for sale, the internet seemed equally shocked that the car existed.

It is really interesting to see how people act online at times like that. I thought it was a positive thing that I was sharing with everyone here on the blog, since I felt that we had just unearthed a major discovery of JDM legend with this car for sale. But then I started seeing crazy rumors online that we possibly had a fake Z-Tune we were selling. That negativity spread like wildfire into discussion that consisted of false rumors and insulting the intellect of Americans and other such nonsense. It was crazy to watch the drama unfold. All negative trash coming out of something that we should have all been excited and inspired by. Ultimately I never went on there and joined the argument since I dont see a need to defend 10 legitimate years of being in business without any trickery or fake crap…and you know what… sure enough the truth came out that the car is real when someone found an old Japanese magazine article discussing it.

Clearly it became apparent (sadly again) there are a lot of negative people out there perhaps trying to push their own interests through slandering others. In this case it shocking to me,  I mean…we don’t even sell knockoff parts of any sort, yet we’d sell a fake car!? Seriously!? I’d sooner close up my business and flee the country than sell something fake.

So this post is dedicated to all of those who doubted…here are a few more pics of the Midnight Purple Z-Tune for sale. I’ve also updated the link here with the new pics (I really love that first picture…I wish the owner took more pictures of his car for us!):

The Rarest Of The Rare – Nismo Z-Tune R34 Midnight Purple by Ben Schaffer

Midnight Purple R34 Nismo Z-Tune

The is the purple unicorn of the Japanese car collector world if you will…

There were 19 Nismo Z-Tunes produced in Japan and they were all Silver. This is the one mythical one which is different from the rest. We’ve just been asked to sell a Midnight Purple (OEM GT-R Color) Nismo Z-Tune. This is the only one in the world and I’m shocked to even see this car in existance, never mind have the ability to help broker the sale of it.

(by the way, we have a Silver Z-Tune for sale as well with 5000km on it)

The car has only 3,000km on it. It is a Nismo full Z-Tune conversion.

The car is for sale FOB Tokyo, Japan.

For inquires please email

The car can be found here:

Mobil 1 GT-R in Hawaii

The Mobil 1 GT-R project as documented earlier here on the blog has made the trip back home to Hawaii into the hands of it’s owner Brandon. Brandon recently shared some pictures of his GT-R back in Hawaii. I thought you all might like to see the pics, so…

The First To Do A Purple R35 GT-R – Mobil 1 GT-R

Posted by

I’m very proud to write this post. A while ago I had this idea in my head that I wanted to build a Midnight Purple R35 GT-R for the SEMA show. At the time (and for many people, all the way up until they saw the car) most people thought I was crazy. Fortunately Mobil 1 understood and also my client Brandon who owns the Mobil 1 car understood. They gave me a chance to do what I wanted to do, and I’m very grateful for it.

The goal of the car was to beat Nissan on the punch on their SpecV and to build a timeless car for my client Brandon and my sponsor Mobil 1. Now looking back we can see the cars side by side and see if I succeeded:

This is the new Nissan SpecV

And this is the car I designed many months earlier, before it was announced that the SpecV would have purple special paint and before the final specs came out:

So lets see how my custom GT-R did looking back after the fact when compared to the new SpecV from Nissan

1. SpecV has authentic purple paint from Nissan – CHECK, so does Mobil 1 demo car air freighted in from Japan.

2. SpecV has a titanium exhaust – CHECK, so does Mobil 1 demo car, plus we have titanium high flow cats as well for more weight reduction.

3. SpecV has a dry carbon wing – CHECK, so does Mobil 1 demo car with even more downforce

4. SpecV has brake ducting – CHECK, so does Mobil 1 demo car with Zele front bumper (not quite the same, but I’m counting it anyways)

5. SpecV has a carbon fiber front grill – CHECK, so does Mobil 1 car

6. SpecV has upgraded brakes for racing use – CHECK, so does Mobil 1 car (although Endless Mono vs carbon ceramic so we take a bit of a loss there)

7. SpecV has more power – CHECK, so does Mobil 1 (actually Mobil 1 puts out much more power than SpecV)

8. SpecV has carbon reclining sports seats – CHECK, so does Mobil 1 (although ours are carbon/kevlar backed Bride reclining seats rather than SpecV Recaros)

Plus as a bonus we have a color matched/burned Amuse exhaust and more carbon fiber parts including a carbon roof as well as side skirts, rear under spoiler, fender outlet ducts and more:

Overall I think we did a pretty good job of beating Nissan to the punch despite going into it blind on a lot of things…sure I had a hunch that Nissan would bring back their legendary Purple again, but with no spec list or information on the SpecV I’m pretty impressed with how well we nailed it.

So when I debuted the car on TheRealJDM blog, many of the blog readers here asked me to show you pictures of the car before the graphics got applied. I wanted to hold back on those until a moment like now when we could compare it in more OEM appearance to the SpecV. Now’s a great time to see the Mobil 1 car without the BBS LMs and without the MS-R / Mana-P graphics.

I’m ready to take on more projects for 2009 so if anyone wants me to build them a custom car, I’m just about ready to start another project!

Also to all media – We have two different professional photo shoots on this Mobil 1 car that we can offer, we’re currently taking offers for magazine covers. If you’re interested please contact

GT-RR.COM GT-R Video Coming To Your TV Soon?

Posted by

Tuesday was our last day with the Midnight Purple GT-R before we sent it back to its permanent home in Hawaii. Fortunately we did something very useful on our last day, we filmed a video segment with Both our signature GT-Rs came out to make some side by side runs for the video segment. The video is in editing now and hopefully it will surface in about a month or so. Word is, it’ll be available by video on demand to anyone with a Tivo.

I’m sure it’ll also be featured here when the time comes:

By the way, staying true to the GT-R theme, even the camera/chase car for the shoot was a GT-R! 🙂 Big thanks goes to Streetfire’s whole crew for having the GT-Rs stay with them at their office after SEMA, there’s no better place I would have wanted them to be.

Here are two pictures (in hi-res as always)!
