So a couple of years back I wrote a controversial version of my The Real JDM column for Modified Magazine called Redefining JDM. It can be downloaded here in PDF: http://www.therealjdm.com/archives/TheRealJDM19.pdf

The objective was to state that JDM has become more of a tuning philosophy over the years and less of a literal definition of “Japanese Domestic Market” and went further into what the JDM tuning philosophy is and why. There are of course no real universal definitions for cultural phenomenons that connect with millions of people each in a different and personal way. JDM and HipHop culture follow a very similar time line and history with regards to origin, culture and difficulty defining it or trying to pigeon hole it into a specific thing or style. I could go on and on about the parallels between the two, but those that know both cultures probably know where I’m going with it…and those that don’t, well I’ll save that discussion for another day.

What I will say getting back to the point of the subject is that Ford can be JDM. I wanted to throw people off with the title of this post. Hopefully I illicited a few “WTF, thats bullshit”. Now look at these photos of the DHG Ford GT GT300 car and try to tell me that this isn’t JDM. This car is a great new addition to the Super GT series, I’m lovin it! (and yeah, even McDonalds can be JDM…although not good JDM, the McEbi and Mega Tomato were just as bad in Japan as usual McDonalds is in the US…at least they are consistent at being bad, you always know what to expect.).

Amuse fitted some ultra aggressive canards to their GT-R Phantom demo car in a recent time attack at Tsukuba. Amuse and Mines continue to distance themselves from the pack as two of the current fastest R35s, but surely other tuners are preparing to step into the ring with some serious tuning in the near future.

Words can not describe how much ass this car kicks. But this picture can. (Props to Mike at Auto-Otaku on the assist…he is continually holding it down and living the dream)

That is some serious car porn in that first picture. You all might be getting sick of me posting about this car…but I’m not sick of talking about it yet, not even close. This car is getting better by the minute.

The abrupt ending of the demo car goes like this…So some mf-ing a-hole does what may be the most impressive hit and run I’ve ever personally seen the results of. Believe it or not, these photos are a result of what could happen if you simply use street parking at your work. Avi has been parking his Evo on the street every week day but when he came out of work to drive it home this is how he found it.

Now how the hell does someone hit a car this hard, this dead-on when its parked on the side of the road? I mean…how drunk and retarded do you have to be!? And then apparently they just drove off…So I’ll never know just who the douche bag is that was responsible for destroying my baby.

Anyway, here’s the carnage. Word is that the car is totaled. This sucks.

To support the promotional offer that Top Secret USA is doing on the first Porsche parts to enter the US, I thought I’d release a couple of new photos of this amazing design. If you’re unfamiliar with the car, I suggest checking the earlier blog posts in which I introduced it. You can use the tag functions for that as well.

For years I’ve had a framed photo of this car on my wall at my office. Ever since I took these photos in 2001 this was my dream street car. Sure I have a soft spot for the Fabulous 360 Modena but this one is just so much more official. Target Aero produced the parts for this car, which happen to be the same parts used on the 360 JGTC car that I was selling two years back.

I cant find Target Aero around anymore, but hopefully they’re still in business and producing these parts. Oddly enough the only time I saw this car was at SEMA 2001. The aero parts are made in Japan. The rims on this car are unfortunate, but to give them a little credit, it was 2001.

My favorite part of this car is the engine cover/rear lid. That thing is serious! I’d kill to have this car in black (on some better rims).

I was going through my photos from Tokyo Auto Salon 1999 and I found this. It is as funny to me now as it was 8 years ago. I nominate “Dick Sports” for the most hilarious JDM tuner name in the history of the industry. If you have anything better, let me know. This has my vote as of now.

By the way, it looks like Dick Sports is no longer in business. They used to make exhaust systems, and various other light tuning parts for Japanese sports cars. I would have opened up Dick Sports USA just for a laugh, if they were still around.
